Hobby Goals - April

(Red items were completed this month, purple items completed in previous months)

 March                                                                                                May

At the start of April, I was still lacking a bit of hobby focus, so I continued to paint my Aeronautica Imperialis aircraft. I had two Grot Bommers, which I bought during March. When I finished these two miniatures, I had finally finished painting all the plastic Ork aircraft. The grot bombs were fun to paint (I did not include them as individual models for my model count). How I paint Aeronautica Imperialis - Orks - Blood Axes.

While I was finishing my Ork aircraft, I also painted up a couple of MCP (Marvel Crisis Protocol) characters. I painted up Black Widow form the Core Set, as I continue to work through some of my backlog. In addition, I have been watching Moon Knight on Disney+ and I really wanted to paint this character up.

When Games Workshop announced the news that Horus Heresy was going to be released with plastic sets, I thought this might become my hobby focus for the year. As such, last month, I bought a set of Heresy armoured Space Marine, I started working on a paint scheme. Years ago, when I played Epic and when I started playing Warhammer 40,000, I had an Emperor's Children Chaos Space Marine force. I have also read a lot of the earlier Horus Heresy novels and I have a particular fondness for the Loyalist Emperor's Children Captain, Saul Tarvitz. So, I worked out a paint scheme for the purple armour of the legion. Having painted two of the marines, I quickly realised that these models did not hold my attention, neither did I find them that fun to paint.

Sticking with Warhammer 40,00 miniatures, I have had Sly Marbo sitting on my painting table for a few months. This miniature was supposed to be part of my Catachan Kill Team, which needs to be finished to complete my hobby goals this year. So, I spent a couple of days painting him up to join my squad.

Having painted all these models, I then stumbled across a new game, Oathmark. I had not been looking for it, nor do I remember how I found it. I put a message out to my friends, to see if anyone had heard of the game. One of them had and proceeded to lend me the rule book. I read the book and started to wonder, 'was Oathmark, my new mass fantasy battle game?' You can read my first few articles on this game.

I had a few Moonclan Grots left over, on the sprue, from when I built my Gloomspite Gitz warband for Warcry. I decided that I wanted to build a Goblin army for Oathmark, so I quickly set to work on these miniatures. I had finally found a true project for the year. I was batch painting my Moonclan Grots (How I paint - Moonclan Grots), but to keep some variety, I also painted up some of my backlog of Nighthaunt Chainrasps (How I paint - Nighthaunts). I really started to make a lot of progress.  With the Nighthaunts (and to a lesser extent the Gloomspite GItz) I am able to tick off 'Paint a unit for one of my existing armies' for April.

This month, I bought 44 miniatures and I managed to paint 45. I am therefore able to tick off 'Paint more miniatures in a month than are bought' for April. While this is not a big decrease of my hobby pile, it is still a decrease. So far, this year I have painted 115 miniatures.

Next month, will see me continue building up my Gloomspite Gitz army but I am also going to have a look at some of the North Star miniatures made specifically for Oathmark.
