How I paint - Stormcast Eternals - Gryph hounds

Image
One of my favourite units in the Stormcast Eternals range are the Gryph-Hounds . They are perfect for filling out those last few spare points in an army or acting as a loyal bodyguard (or pet) for a hero. In Warcry , they really shine, adding a burst of speed to an otherwise slow-moving warband. From a hobby perspective, Gryph-Hounds are a joy to paint, offering a variety of textures and colours that make a refreshing change from the more uniform look of the standard Stormcast fighters. And of course, my little mascot Beakie is a loyal Gryph-Hound, always keeping a watchful eye on my Stormcast. Start by undercoating the miniature with  Chaos Black  spray  Lion Brown Body The body was given a solid basecoat of  XV-88 . Once this was dry, the whole area was shaded with a 50:50 mix of  XV-88  and  Mournfang Brown , thinned with water and worked roughly into the recesses and across the underside. After the shade dried, the raised areas were tidied back u...

The Emberwatch - Warband Review

Image
The first warband for the new edition of Warhammer Underworlds, Embergard, features the Age of Sigmar poster boys, the Emberwatch. This group consists of three Stormcast Eternals who have spent many years in the fiery, emotion-riven realm of Aqshy. The warband includes the leader, Ardorn Flamerunner [1], alongside the assassin, Farasa Twice-Risen [2], and the marksman, Yurik Velzaine [3]. Fighter Characteristics Each of the Emberwatch warriors has similar basic characteristics. Ardorn Flamerunner, the leader of the Emberwatch, has a Move of 3, a Save of 1 Block, a Health of 5, and a Bounty of 3. He wields a melee weapon with Range 1, 2 Hammers for 2 Damage, and a ranged weapon with Range 3, 2 Hammers for 1 Damage. Upon Inspiration, Ardorn's Save increases to 2 Block, and both his ranged and melee weapons improve from 2 to 3 Hammers, boosting his accuracy significantly. Farasa Twice-Risen, the assassin, also has a Move of 3, a Save of 1 Block, a Health of 5, and a Bounty of 2. She ...

Warhammer Underworlds - Playing Xandire's Truthseekers

Image
Checkout my  Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page for more articles. Xandire's Truthseekers are a formidable four-member warband of Stormcast, introduced in the treacherous labyrinth of Harrowdeep. Comprising three stalwart Stormcast warriors and a swift Aetherwing named Taros, they are led by Xandire, a fearsome warrior-wizard with untapped magical potential. While Xandire's magical abilities lie dormant in their battles, the warband is known for their aggressive playstyle, making them a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Xandire - The Leader: Although Xandire possesses magical abilities, her role in this warband leans more towards close combat. She wields a fearsome three-smash, two-damage attack with the Cleave ability. Dhoraz - The Big Hitter: Dhoraz is the warband's powerhouse, dealing devastating blows to enemy fighters. While his sacrifice may be necessary at times, his Scything attack (when inspired) can wreak havoc on multiple foes. Stormrider - The Arc...

How to paint Sacrosanct Stormcast Eternals - Hallowed Knights

Image
During the Age of Sigmar, the Stormcast Eternals are the main force of Order in the Mortal Realms. With each new edition of the game, a new set of Stormcast miniatures have been released. I have mainly been painting Stormcast for Warhammer Underworlds but I am starting to branch out into Warcry. So far I have completed: the Farstriders, Steelheart's Champions, the Cursebreakers and Ironsoul's Condemnors. Currently, I am working my way through the Storm of Celestus. When Age of Sigmar was first released I got my first Stormcast miniature in White Dwarf. Then reading through the Realm Gate War books, I found the Hallowed Knights battling the forces of Nurgle in the realm of Ghyran.  I have continued to paint my Stormcast as Hallowed Knights ever since. For the Second Edition of the Age of Sigmar, the Sacrosanct Chamber was opened. This guide is my take on the Sacrosanct Stormcast Eternals of the Hallowed Knights.  My other Stormcast painting guides include: Aetherwings Gr...

How I paint - Stormcast Ethernals - Aetherwings

Image
I have been adding miniatures to my Warhammer Underworlds warbands to convert them into Warcry warbands. I started first with the Farstriders and added some Gryph-hounds. The leader of the Farstriders has a Star Falcon on his wrist. I wanted to continue the bird theme through the rest of the warband, so I added the Aetherwings. I decided to paint the Aetherwings blue, to fit in with the Realm of Heavens, Azyr. So, I did some research on the Internet and found some pictures of parrots to use as a guide for colours. Real life examples can help to make you creatures more believable. If you are after bright colours, consider tropical animals. The Aetherwings were painted sub-assembled. The bird was painted separately from the tree stump. To paint the tree stump, I used my How to paint terrain - Dead Wood guide. My other Stormcast painting guides include: Aetherwings Gryph-hounds Stormcast Eternals - Hallowed Knights Paints required: Mechanicum Standard Grey spray Kantor Blue Thousand Sons ...
