Warband Review - The Wurmspat

The Wurmspat: A Warhammer Underworlds Warband Review By Jon Grant 14th November 2025 Updated February 2026 Introduction The Wurmspat lumbered to the edges of the twisted, knotted forest known as the Spitewood. The dense thicket of tangled boughs loomed ahead, its lush and vibrant vegetation entirely untouched by the taint of rot. Fecula Flyblown halted at the forest’s border, tapping her Rotwood staff against the soft earth as she surveyed the shifting treeline. “Something potent lies in there,” she muttered, a smile cracking across her bile covered lips. “Aqua Ghyranis, and plenty of it.” Ghulgoch and Sepsimus exchanged eager, gurgling chuckles. Wherever life bloomed brightest, Grandfather Nurgle’s gifts brought the most exquisite decay. To the sound of scraping rusted iron and the wet squelch of suppurating flesh, the Wurmspat stepped into the Spitewood intent on finding the sacred waters and befouling them in Nurgle’s name. How I paint Chaos Daemons - Feculent Gnarlmaw

The Feculant Gnarlmaw is a grotesque daemonic tree for the forces of Nurgle. It provides buffs to nearby Maggotkin but cost no points in Warhammer Age of Sigmar. As such they can be overlook, even though they are an essential part of the army. The Gnarlmaw has a range of different components, each requiring a different paint scheme and set of techniques. This is my take on painting this miniature. Army Collection - Maggotkin of Nurgle

Back in the early 1990s, when I first started playing Warhammer , there was a campaign system inside the Realms of Chaos: The Lost and the Damned book that focused on small Chaos warbands. I played a Nurgle warband against a small group of friends during Thursday games nights at Games Workshop Sheffield. After that campaign, I always kept a small Nurgle force for Warhammer Fantasy Battle . I even took the army to a tournament once. I didn’t do too badly, finishing the day with three wins and two losses. When Warhammer Fantasy Battle was eventually replaced by Age of Sigmar , I wasn’t sure whether the new game would catch on. So, I decided to collect a Nurgle daemon force. My thinking was simple: if I didn’t end up liking Age of Sigmar , I could always use them in Warhammer 40K . On the gaming side, I’ve been hooked on Warhammer Underworlds since the release of Nightvault , the game’s second season. When the Wurmspat were released in Beastgrave (season three), featuring a Nurgle sor...
