Hobby Goals - June
(Red items were completed this month, purple items completed in previous months)
As we entered June, I was still working on my Gloomspite Gitz, specifically my Rockgut Troggoths. I had started painting these large miniatures back in May, but I only managed to finish one. So, my first project for June was to finish the unit of three. Having completed this unit, I put together a small painting guide for the flesh, for my own future reference. How I paint Rockgut Troggoth flesh.
With the Troggoths complete, I had a Moonclan Grot icon bearer and musician sitting waiting on the painting table. I painted these up moving me a little closer to having two units of 20 grots completed. I still have two more spear-grots to finish/start. As the Gloomspite Gitz is a new army for 2022, I cannot tick anything off from my Hobby Goals list. Army Collection – Gloomspite Gitz
I am quite a fickle painter and as such, I decided that I wanted paint some miniatures for a different army. I went rooting through boxes in my loft and found a set of Spirit Hosts, that I had forgotten I had. I spent and evening gluing them together (they are fiddly). Then spent a couple of days painting them. To paint them I used my How I Paint Nighthaunts guide for the spirits and the How I paint Ancient Bone for the skeletons on the base. The Nighthaunts are an existing army, so I was able to place another tick next to 'Paint a unit for an existing army'.
By the middle of June, I was feeling that I was making satisfactory progress with my painting and that I would like to try for an 'untouched' Hobby Goal. To this end, I decided to 'Paint a Blitz Bowl team'. I had half a box of the Chaos Chosen team. For years, I have played the Chaos team on the Xbox, but I have never had a team painted up. My team are the Slaaneshi 69ers. I wanted to paint them up in the 1990s Slaaneshi style of pale pastels. The main colour was always going to be purple, but I want to get pink, blue, and yellow onto the miniatures as well. Overall, I am really pleased with the result, but I cannot get a decent picture that really shows the colours off well.
With my Blitzbowl team done, I was back in the loft rummaging around through boxes. I found some Tyranids: A Venomthrope, three metal Biovores (from the 1990s) and a couple of Genestealers. Having painted these up to add to my already sizeable swarm, I could tick of another 'Paint a unit for an existing army'.
To finish the month, I wanted to return to the North Star Goblins. So, I finished off another five goblin archers. How I paint Goblin Infantry - Oathmark
In total this month, I have painted 24 miniatures. A little slower than previous months as the troggoths really slowed me down in the first few weeks. However, this month I did not buy any new miniatures! So, for a second month this year I have been able to tick off 'Do not buy any new miniatures for a month' and 'Paint more miniatures in a month than are bought'.
So far, this year I have painted 169 miniatures. Next month, I aim to paint some more of my North Star Goblins and a unit of Myrmourn Banshees (again another unit, I found in the loft).
Anyway, with that, I will say goodbye for now and happy hobbying and do check out some of my other articles and leave a comment below.
