Hobby Goals - March 2025

Painting

My Tunnelpack

In March, I set myself one painting goal: to finish an entire Underworlds warband. Of the three I had yet to paint, only Zikkit's Tunnelpack were built and primed, so I chose to start with them. These Clan Skryre Skaven were painted with a scheme in mind—mainly copper and green—to represent their arcane science and warpstone-infused warlock engineering.

I followed my usual "How I Paint Skaven" method for most of the miniatures, swapping out the typical reds for greens. I began, as I usually do, with the smallest models, then moved on to the mini doomwheel, and finally finished with Zikkit himself.

Overall, I’m really pleased with how the warband turned out—the green and copper work well together, and I achieved my goal of completing a full warband.

With Zikkit's crew complete, I went ahead and built the Jaws of Itzl and Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz. Some of these models will likely be next month’s painting project.

Gaming

At the start of April, I’ll be attending a Nemesis tournament hosted by the Agents of Sigmar in Redhill, Surrey, UK. With that in mind, I needed to get some practice games in. I’m still not totally sure what warband to take, but I decided to experiment with Cyreni’s Razors using a Countdown to Cataclysm deck, paired with Emberstone Sentinel.

My Razors

The first game I played turned into more of a beginner’s match against Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz. It wasn’t about winning, but I did get a good look at how the deck operated. That said, I discovered two Surge objectives—Collateral Damage and The Perfect Cut—were bricking my hand.

My second game was against Ironsoul’s Condemnors. In that match, I kept my positioning toward the back of my territory and used the Condemnors' slow movement to pick them off one by one. The deck performed well, but once again Collateral Damage ended up blocking my hand.

Blogging

I’ve continued researching and reviewing warbands to improve my understanding of the game. This month, I wrote up warband reviews for Myari’s Purifiers and The Headsman’s Curse.

More reviews are planned for next month.

Final Thoughts

I’ve found painting to be a bit tedious lately—mainly because the last two warbands just haven’t inspired me much.

On the gaming side, though, I’m really enjoying Warhammer Underworlds. I do think I need to branch out and play a greater variety of warbands and decks to broaden my knowledge. I’ve recently picked up Tabletop Simulator and hope to get more games in soon.
