Army Collection - Nighthaunt

I started playing Games Workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy Battle (WFB) way back in 1990. Over the years, I’ve collected a variety of armies: the Undead, the Empire, Ogre Kingdoms, Chaos Warriors, and Daemons. When Age of Sigmar (AoS) arrived, I initially gravitated toward the Maggotkin of Nurgle—primarily as a daemon-based force that could also be used in Warhammer 40K. Eventually, I found myself drawn to the Nighthaunt gheists.

Throughout my WFB days, I mostly played Undead forces. So, when the Nighthaunt emerged in AoS, they naturally became my chosen faction. I didn’t care how powerful they were on the tabletop; I was far more interested in them as a collection of miniatures to paint.

How I Paint Nighthaunts

On the gaming side, I’ve been hooked on Warhammer Underworlds since the release of Nightvault, the game’s second season. This was also when the Thorns of the Briar Queen were introduced—the first warband I ever played.

My Thorns

After several years and many warbands, I discovered my favorite: Lady Harrow’s Mournflight from the first edition—a hauntingly elegant group of Myrmourn Banshees.

As the game continued to expand, we saw the release of Drepur’s Wraithcreepers, a band of Glaivewraith Stalkers.

The final Nighthaunt warband of the first edition was the Headsman’s Curse, a grim and striking addition to the Underworlds range.

My Headsman

Having painted all of the Nighthaunt warbands for Warhammer Underworlds, I started to branch out into other games. This led me to explore Warcry and Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Spearhead.

For the first edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Spearhead: Fire and Jade, I had already painted the entire Slasher Host.

Then, with the second edition—Spearhead: Sand and Bone—we saw the release of another force, the Cursed Shacklehorde. Once again, I had already completed painting this force before the Spearhead box dropped.

I’ve painted a large portion of the Nighthaunt range by now, and with that foundation, I’m finally ready to begin learning Age of Sigmar properly.

Here is a selection of my unnamed heroes.

Followed by a tide of Chainrasps. When I was painting these Chainrasps they seemed never ending.

So, that is my army so far. There are still units that I haven't painted yet but I am looking forward to getting them on the table.

What do you think of this army? Do you play the Nighthaunts? If so, how do you find them?
