Hobby Goals - March 26
Jon Grant Miniatures March 26 Hobby Update
Painting
The first painting priority this month was to finish Blood of the Bull. This was easily achieved as most of the work had already been done in February. I only needed to complete Hogrot, Grisk and the bases on the Helsmiths to finish the warband.

After that, hobby time was limited for most of March due to other commitments. Toward the end of the month, I was able to make a start on Thanatek’s Tithe, the latest warband for Warhammer Underworlds. I have been meaning to write a “How I Paint” article for the Ossiarch Bonereapers for a while, and this warband will help move that forward.

Gaming
Following on from the tournament at the end of February, I wanted to find a new deck pairing for Blackpowder’s Buccaneers. The aim was to try a range of different pairings to see what did and didn’t work.
Hunting Grounds proved difficult to use. Opponents who avoided interacting with my territory caused both the objectives and power cards to stall. It seems to require some form of lure to bring opponents into my territory to function consistently.
When I played Harry, we continued to use a range of different warbands and deck pairings to test how each performed. We often pick warbands that don’t see much play between us, which helps build a better understanding of them.
Later in the month, I joined Harry on a visit to the Agents of Sigmar. We played a couple of games while they practised commentary in preparation for Worlds later in the year.
I gave Blackpowder a whirl with Pillage and Plunder. I found this pairing works reasonably well, but it requires too much from the minions and leaves Gorlock marooned, playing a game which is not optimal for his abilities.
I lost more games in March than I won, but I did learn a fair amount about the different combinations that do and do not work with the Buccaneers.
Blogging
During March I continued my Analysis Series focused on Warhammer Underworlds, this time looking at attacks and what makes them successful.
I also returned to writing warband reviews. This month I mainly focused on warbands I have been playing against rather than using myself.
Alongside this, I updated an older painting article and started work on a few more posts for next month.
This month’s posts included:
- Warhammer Underworlds Analysis Series – Attacking
- The Exiled Dead – Warband Review
- The Thricefold Discord – Warband Review
- Rippa’s Snarlfangs – Warband Review
- How I Paint White Marble
