Hobby Goals - February 2025

Happy 2025 everybody!

It has been a few months since I last sat down to write about what I have been up to in my hobby. Life has been incredibly busy, mainly with work but also with family commitments, leaving little time for much else.

Painting

I haven't had much time — or inclination — to pick up my paintbrush. One reason is that the area where I paint in my house tends to get quite cold during the winter months, which doesn't make for a particularly inviting workspace. On top of that, by the time I've been free to paint, there's often no daylight left — and I definitely prefer painting with natural light.

However, here in the UK, the light has been gradually returning, and with that, I've found myself drawn back to my painting desk. I have several Underworlds warbands waiting for attention, so I decided to start with the Plaguebearers of Nurgle from the Grandfather Gardeners set.

My Gardeners

I have a large army of Plaguebearers that I painted when Age of Sigmar was first released, and I wanted to paint these in the same style. I recorded the process and made a small guide of How I Paint ... Plaguebearers of Nurgle. I was pleased to have finished the warband, but I am not completely happy with the paint job. I don't really know why but something just feels off. Still, I have my brushes back in hand, the sun is shining and there is more grey plastic to paint.

So, this month I painted three miniatures.

Gaming

I have been able to get a few games in lately, and I even managed to attend a tournament. Without spoiling too much, as you can read my write-up for the day here (Victory Clash), I did quite well.

My Razors

The tournament was a Rivals tournament, and I decided to use a warband and deck that I had not used before, Cyreni's Razors and Countdown to Cataclysm. As part of the preparation, I wrote a little warband review of Cyreni's Razors for this blog and played a few games at my local club.

Blogging

As I have already mentioned, I have been busy, but I found time to continue writing warband and deck reviews, along with a painting guide. This aspect of my hobby helped me to stay sane.

In April, I aim to attend another tournament, this one will be Nemesis, so I will need to find something to play and get some practise games in. I am in the mood for playing Aelven warbands. At present I have Myari's Purifiers or Cyreni's Razors in mind.
