Hobby Goals - May 2025

Painting

This month, I had one main goal: finish painting the remaining two members of Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz. With these two Gitz complete, I would have all the Underworlds warbands painted—at least until the release of the Knives of the Crone.

I started with Rigg and Sham, quickly painting the pair of Grots pretending to be Uglug’s pet squig, before moving on to Dregg. I finished both Grots on May 4th, thereby completing all the Underworlds warbands released so far. That very afternoon, Games Workshop announced the new warband would go on pre-order the following Saturday, May 10th. This meant I had until May 24th to paint other miniatures and work through my ever-diminishing pile of shame.

I tackled a mob of five Loonsmasha Fanatics next. Following my usual paint scheme for the Gloomspite Gitz, I finished them by the 18th.

The following weekend, the Knives of the Crone were released. I immediately built and started painting them, managing to complete Tazari before the end of the month. I also wrote up my How I Paint – Knives of the Crone painting guide.

This month, I painted eight miniatures, bringing my total so far this year to twenty-three.

Gaming

This month’s gaming included a visit to our local club in Redhill. I joined the Agents of Sigmar, along with Harry (aka Slippy), Martin (aka Godsworngamer), and a few other players for some initial warband testing ahead of the Agents' Clash in June.

I decided to run Daggok’s Stab-Ladz with my Cataclysm/Wrack and Ruin pairing again. I had made a few changes to the deck since my last outing.

I played two games. The first was against Axel, who brought Headsman’s Curse paired with Blazing Assault and Countdown to Cataclysm. That game didn’t go well for me—I lost 17 to 14. Next, I faced Imogen, who was also running Headsman’s Curse, this time paired with Blazing Assault and Edge of the Knife. This match went much better, and I won 22 to 10. Even so, I felt my deck still needed a few more adjustments.

On Tuesday, May 20th, I attended another club night. This time, I ran Emberwatch with Pillage and Plunder alongside Wrack and Ruin. I played two games, starting with a match against Jaws of Itzl paired with Blazing Assault and Countdown to Cataclysm.

Then, on Saturday, May 31st, I met up with Harry (Slippy) for a full day of gaming. We each brought one warband from each Grand Alliance, plus our chosen tournament warband. The goal was to better understand how various warbands play and to test our tournament decks in preparation for the Agents' Clash. We managed to get in four games, using the rules from the Spring update.

May's Gaming Results

The most notable takeaway from the day was how the updated Countdown to Cataclysm impacts gameplay. The compulsory movement of the Countdown counter made scoring Wreckers significantly harder than it had been before the update.

I have added some of these decks to my deck library.

Blogging

In April 2025, my blogsite received over 6,000 views in a single month—thank you to everyone who stopped by! I've now set myself a goal: to reach 100,000 all-time views by the end of April 2026. To achieve this, I plan to keep writing articles focused on Underworlds, painting, and other hobby-related topics.

I kicked off the month with a discussion on one of Games Workshop’s best factions: Chaos Daemons. This article was more of a casual chat about why I think they're such a great faction from a hobby perspective.

From there, I returned to my ongoing series of Underworlds deck and warband reviews. This month, I covered:

  • Edge of the Knife – Deck Review

  • Knives of the Crone – Warband Review

  • Wrack and Ruin – Deck Review

  • Ylthari’s Guardians – Warband Review

  • How I Choose a Warband for an Underworlds Tournament

  • How I Paint – Knives of the Crone

In May 2025, the blog saw nearly 8,000 views, bringing the total to over 50,000 all-time views! I'm incredibly grateful for all the support and excited to keep pushing toward that 100K milestone.

Finally, and possibly most importantly, my new mascot, Beakie has arrived on my blogsite. Keep a look out for him as he accompanies me on my travels through the Underworlds.

What else would I like? I’d love for more people to read my Underworlds content. At present, it seems most visitors come for the painting guides.
