Jon Grant Miniatures April 2026 Hobby Update

by Jon Grant 1st May 2026

Painting

I began the month with the aim of painting Thanatek’s Tithe. As of the beginning of March, they were the only Warhammer Underworlds warband that I had yet to paint. I chose the same colour scheme I used for Kainan’s Reapers, bone and purples to represent Shyish, the Realm of Death.

I really enjoyed painting this warband and I continue to love the Ossiarch Bonereaper aesthetic, although I doubt I will ever paint a larger force for them. While working on the Mortis Reapers, I also wrote a painting guide, which you can find linked here.

My Tithe

Afterwards, I decided to paint four Moonclan Grot archers for my Gloomspite Gitz. For these miniatures, I followed my existing Moonclan Grot painting guide.

Returning to the loft, I rediscovered my Wrath and Rapture box set from 2019. I had finished painting the Khorne Daemons years ago, but most of the Slaaneshi daemons were still on the sprues. I decided to build and paint the Fiends of Slaanesh.

I used my How I Paint Daemonettes of Slaanesh article as a starting point, then adapted the scheme to match the colours of The Thricefold Discord from Warhammer Underworlds.

The three miniatures were quite time‑consuming to paint, but they are now complete and I think they make a great addition to my Daemons of Chaos collection.

Fiends of Slaanesh

Having gained an enormous sense of satisfaction from finishing the Fiends, I went on to build and paint my Seekers of Slaanesh. As with the Fiends, I used the descriptions of the Steeds from Realms of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness (late 1980s) as my guide.

Seekers of Slaanesh

Overall, April proved to be a very good painting month. I am back to being fully up to date with all Warhammer Underworlds warbands. Additionally, I have almost completed the Chaos Daemons: Wrath and Rapture box set that I bought nearly seven years ago, there is now only a single miniature left to paint.

Painting Stats

  • Miniatures painted this month: 17
  • Warhammer Underworlds warbands painted this year: 4
  • Miniatures painted this year: 35

Gaming

This month, I continued to experiment with deck combinations for the Blackpowder Buccaneers. This has proven extremely difficult. After seven months of playing the ogor pirate, I can make him work against many opponents, but I still can’t make him competitive against more finely tuned decks and warbands.

I tried a wide variety of combinations this month, but sadly all of them still felt below par.

Next month, I’ll be playing in another Agents of Sigmar tournament—and I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to take!

Blogging

Most of my blog articles this month were painting guides, but I also continued my analysis series by looking at Objective card draw.

On the 24th of April, my blog reached 200,000 all‑time views. Thank you to everyone who has looked in, and to all who have stayed. An even bigger thank you to everyone who has dropped me a follow.
