Hobby Goals July 2026

July turned out to be a productive hobby month, even if I didn't manage much gaming. Most of my hobby time was spent painting, with projects ranging from Aeronautica Imperialis and Blood Bowl through to Age of Sigmar and Oathmark. Alongside this, I continued working behind the scenes on improving the blog, particularly by updating older articles and expanding some of my content hubs.

Looking back, it was one of those months where the painting desk saw far more action than the gaming table, but I still managed to make good progress across several collections.

Painting

I started the month wanting to paint a few more aircraft for Aeronautcia Imperialis. To this end, I had three Xiphon Interceptors, which I want to paint up for the Salamanders legion.

As I was painting the Xiphons, I kept a record and wrote it up as an article.

Next, I moved on to a new project, Blood Bowl!

I built my Ogre Team and started painting them immediately. I focused heavily on them throughout the month and after a fortnight I had my new team.

With the Ogres finished, I wanted to complete four Moonclan Grots that had been left unfinished from June. Although I never got around to writing my Hobby Goals article for June, I had actually painted sixteen Grots during the month. Finishing the final four allowed me to complete a full unit of twenty Stabbas.

Around the same time, I discovered that Oathmark was receiving a second edition. This immediately renewed my interest in the game and got me thinking about what armies I already owned that could be used with the rules.

 

The obvious answer was my Gloomspite Gitz collection. After looking through the army and comparing it to the available Kingdom options, I realised I already owned enough Goblins, Trolls and characters to build a substantial Goblin-only force. Rather than starting a new army from scratch, I could simply repurpose miniatures that were already painted and ready for battle.

 

As I started building the army list, it became clear that I needed a spellcaster. Fortunately, I had a Fungoid Cave Shaman sitting in the pile of opportunity. A single day's work later and he was ready to join the growing Goblin horde.

• Miniatures painted this month: 19 (+16 for June)
• Warhammer Underworlds warbands painted this year: 4
• Total miniatures painted this year: 85

As the month drew to an end, I recieved my new box for the Ogor Mawtribes. These will keep me busy.

Gaming

Due to a combination of both me and various friends heading away for summer holidays, I only managed two games in the whole month.

Both of these games were for Warhammer Underworlds. As both games came at the beginning of July, and at the end of a very busy period in June, I used Blackpowder's Buccaneers with Blazing Assault and Endge of the Knife.

I won both games.

• The first against the Emberwatch paired with Blazing Assault and Reckless Fury. This game finished 20 to 10.
• The second against the Thricefold Discord paired with Pillage and Plunder along with Edge of the Knife. This game finished 25 to 17

On top of these two Underowrlds games, I played a couple of very basic solo games of Oathmark to remind myself how the rules worked.

Blogging

I started the month, in a similar way as I ended June, by upgrading some of my older pages. This primarily meant going through the pages HTML code and tidying it up.

On top of this, I wrote a bunch of new articles, including starting a new series for Blood Bowl

I also continued to add to both my Aeronautica Imperialis and Warhammer Underworlds content.

Closing Thoughts

Overall, July was a productive and surprisingly varied month. Whilst I only managed a couple of games, I completed several painting projects, finished an entire Blood Bowl team and made progress on both my Gloomspite Gitz and Aeronautica Imperialis collections.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the month was rediscovering Oathmark. What started as a quick look at the upcoming second edition quickly turned into a new army-building project using miniatures I already owned. I suspect that idea will continue to feature heavily in the months ahead.
