Can their fighter escort protect the transport aircraft long enough to escape, or will enemy interceptors destroy their only route home? Background Far behind enemy lines, an elite strike force has completed a dangerous infiltration mission and recovered intelligence of immense strategic value. Carrying a secure data-casket containing enemy plans and deployment codes, the team now waits at a remote extraction point for rescue. A transport aircraft has been dispatched to recover the operatives and their priceless cargo, escorted by a wing of fighters. If the mission succeeds, the intelligence could chang...

Aeronautica Imperialis - Scenario - Titan Hunter

Image
Titan Hunter - A new mission for Aeronautica Imperialis. An unofficial mission for Aeronautica Imperialis in which opposing air forces attempt to take out opponents ground forces. Background During the First Taros War, combined Imperial forces consisting of Tallarn Tank Regiments, Adeptus Astartes strike forces and a pair of Warhound Titans advanced across the Iracunda Isthmus. Initially, the Imperial offensive swept aside Tau resistance, with the Warhounds engaging Hammerhead formations from extreme range. Then the Tau struck back. Tiger Shark AX-1-0 heavy fighters came in low and fast, skimming across the desert floor. Missiles flared against the Warhound's void shields, while twin railgun rounds punched through its armour. Critically damaged, the Titan staggered backwards before crashing to the ground. Although the Imperial offensive ultimately achieved its objective, advancing nearly fifty kilometres into Tau territory, the destruction of the Warhound dem...

Building an Ogre Blood Bowl Roster

Image
Building an Ogre Blood Bowl Roster In my previous article, Building My First Blood Bowl Team in Twenty Years , I assembled my new Ogre Blood Bowl team and started thinking about how I wanted the team to develop. However, building the miniatures is only part of the process. Just because I have assembled a team does not mean I have a roster. As someone returning to Blood Bowl after almost twenty years away, I wanted to spend some time understanding what Ogre teams actually do, how they develop and what sort of starting roster I wanted to take into a league. This article forms the next stage of my Blood Bowl journey, which began with Returning to Blood Bowl After 20 Years . Understanding the Team Compared to many Blood Bowl teams, the choice of players in an Ogre teams is remarkably simple. The roster contains just three player types: Gnoblar Linemen, Ogre Blockers and the Ogre Runt Punter. The stars of the team are undoubtedly the Ogres. Whether fielded as Ogre Bloc...

Building My First Blood Bowl Team in 20 Years

Building My First Blood Bowl Team in Twenty Years In my previous article , I looked back at my history with Blood Bowl, from the Champions of Death in the 1990s through the Living Rulebook era and eventually to the conversation with Pete from the Agents of Sigmar that finally persuaded me to return to the game. At the time of writing, I still haven't played a game using the current edition of Blood Bowl. Before any dice are rolled, before any touchdowns are scored and before any opponents become half-time snacks I need to build and paint my new Ogre team. I never play a game with unpainted miniatures and I have no intention of starting now. Over the years I have developed my own way of approaching hobby projects and it has remained remarkably consistent since I first started collecting Warhammer Fantasy Battle back in 1990. I always build and paint the mandatory models first. Once the essentials are complete, I can reward myself by working on the more interestin...

Starting Blood Bowl in 2026: Returning After 20 Years Away

Starting Blood Bowl in 2026: Returning After 20 Years Away There are some games that never really leave you. The miniatures may end up boxed away in a loft. New editions may come and go. Entire gaming groups may move on to other systems. Yet every now and then something happens that reminds you why you enjoyed a game in the first place. For me, that game is Blood Bowl. At the time of writing, I have not actually returned to Blood Bowl. My first game is still later this month. The team has been ordered, the enthusiasm is there and I have started looking at the current rules, but for now I find myself standing on the edge of a hobby journey that I haven't undertaken for almost twenty years. If you are new to Jon Grant Miniatures, Start Here → The Early Years My first experience with Blood Bowl came in 1994. I had been in the hobby for four years and I was heavily invested in Warhammer Fantasy Battle, where I collected and played Undead. Unsurprisingly, my first Blood B...

Aeronautica Imperialis - Ork Looted Aircraft

Image
Ork Looted Aircraft in Aeronautica Imperialis Orks have always had a habit of "acquiring" enemy equipment and using it for their own purposes. In Aeronautica Imperialis, this tradition continues with the introduction of Looted Imperial aircraft in the Aeronautica Imperialis Companion . Whilst the Orks were one of the first factions released for the game and received no new aircraft through the main release cycle, the Companion added rules for two captured Imperial aircraft: the Thunderbolt Fighter and the Marauder Bomber. If you are new to the faction, you may wish to start with my Aeronautica Imperialis Faction Guide or my Ork Air Waaagh Review The question is simple: are Looted aircraft actually worth taking? Looted Aircraft Restrictions To take a Looted Thunderbolt Fighter or Marauder Bomber, the Ork player must first include five other aircraft in their force. Even if those are five basic Dakkajets, the Ork player must spend 80 points before payi...
