How I paint Aeronautica Imperialis - Orks - Goffs

Image
The Orks were one of the first two factions released for Aeronautica Imperialis. The Orks of the Goff Clan are no nonsense fighters, who aim to get up close and personal as quickly as possible. The Goff clan favours black above all other colours with decorations in black and white checks. For this painting guide I am going to paint my Fighta bommer black. Here is the link to my  Ork faction review . More of my  Aeronautica articles  can be found here. More of my  How I paint...  can be found here. Paints required: Chaos Black  spray Abaddon Black Eshin Grey Dawnstone Leadbelcher Nuln Oil Corax White Gryph-Charger Grey Ironbreaker Khorne Red Mephiston Red Evil Suns Scarlet Wild Rider Red Averland Sunset Yriel Yellow Army Painter Matt White (White Scar) Balthasar Gold Agrax Earthshade The plane was undercoated with Chaos Black spray . The plane was then given a brush applied basecoat of Abaddon Black . Abaddon Black is a slightly different colour to Ch...

Tactica Aeronautica - Extended Damage

Image
With the release of the Aeronautica Imperialis: Companion, Extended Damage rules were added to the game. First off, it is worth stating these rules are optional.  What are the Extended Damage rules?  Valkyrie with Fire damage In a standard game of Aeronautica , when an aircraft scores a damaging hit on an opponent, the opposing aircraft loses a structure point. However, with the Extended Damage rules, a damaging hit requires a roll on the Aircraft Damage table. On a result of 4 or higher, the aircraft loses a structure point and suffers an additional effect, such as Spinning, Smoke, or Flame. On a roll of 3 or lower, the aircraft suffers an additional effect but does not lose a structure point. As a result, the Aircraft Damage table effectively reduces the chance of a structure point being lost to roughly 50% per damaging hit. When using the Extended Damage rules, all aircraft become more resilient, which significantly increases the length of the game. How do the extra effe...

My Third Warhammer Underworlds Tournament - Agents Clash 2023

Image
Checkout my  Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page  for more articles. On the 11th November 2023, 24 players gathered at the Gamer's Guild in Redhill for the first tournament arranged by Pete and Robin, the Agents of Sigmar. In previous tournaments, I had taken pure Aggro warbands, which I had enjoyed playing but the dice had failed me. This time I wanted to play something with Flex. As I have a large Nighthaunt army for Age of Sigmar, I decided to take Lady Harrow's Mournflight, which I combined with Force of Frost (to make my Ice Scream deck). This deck could be used for control of objectives, but equally be aggressive if necessary. The tournament would be played out as five best-of-one games. I liked the idea of this format, as I would get to play more players than in a best-of-three tournament. Game 1 In the first game, I was drawn against Martin with Garrek's Reavers with Tooth and Claw . I won the roll off and decided to place boards first. I off set Martin's boar...

Tactica Aeronautica - Ground Attack

Image
One of the big differences between Aeronautica Imperialis and X-wing is altitude. This 3D aspect of the game allows for more types of scenarios than the standard dogfight. Altitude brings ground targets and defences to the game, allowing for bombing and troop transport missions.  The Bombing Mission, from the Rynn’s World campaign book, is a good example of where ground targets are in use. In this mission the attacker is trying to destroy three ground targets each with 4 Structure points. The defender must take at least one Ground Defence. So, in this mission, there are lots of ground targets.  Attacking Ground Targets  There are two ways in which an aircraft can engage a ground target. These are: Strafing Runs and Bombing Runs.  Strafing Runs  In a Strafing Run, an aircraft uses any of its weapons that do not have either the Aerial Attack or Ground Attack special rule to fire upon the ground target. To commit to a Strafing Run the aircraft needs to be travellin...

Tactica Aeronautica - Basics - Speed

Image
Aeronautica Imperialis, like most games, is divided up into distinct phases : Choose Manoeuvres, Initiative, Tailing Fire, Movement, Firing and the End phase s. Unlike most miniature games, almost all the miniatures must move during the Movement phase . The only exceptions being ground defences and the few aircraft that have a minimum speed of 0. This makes the Movement phase especially important.   The Movement Phase is effec tively made up of two components, Manoeuvres and Speed. Your aircraft ’ s speed dictates how many hexes it can move through in a turn and by extension, how easy it will be for your opponent to predict where your aircraft will be for the F iring P hase and beyond.  Usually, the higher the speed , the more difficult it will be to predict an aircraft ’ s finishing position .   Manoeuvres dictate how your aircraft turn within the Area of Engagement . Again , generally , the higher the manoeuvre the more unpredictable an aircraft’s mo...

How I paint Aeronautica Imperialis - Orks - Bad Moons

Image
The Orks were one of the first two factions released for Aeronautica Imperialis. The Orks of the Bad Moon Clan are the richest, due to the fact their teeth grow the fastest. Members of the Bad Moon Clan often paint their aircraft yellow, to show off their riches. For this painting guide I am going to paint my dakka-jet yellow. Paints required: Chaos Black spray Zandri Dust spray   Averland Sunset Cassandora Yellow Seraphim Sepia Contrast Medium Yriel Yellow F lash Gitz Yellow Agrax Earthshade Leadbelcher Nuln Oil Ironbreaker Abaddon Black Mephiston Red Evil Suns Scarlet Wild Rider Red Eshin Grey  Gryph Charger Grey Balthasar Gold The plane was undercoated with Chaos Black spray. I then gave the plane a very light dusting with Zandri Dust spray. The dusting really helps brighter colours to cover the black base. The plane was then given a base coat with Averland Sunset . This took three coats of thinned paint to achieve a nice smooth, solid finish. When the basecoat had full...
