Hobby Goals - April 2024

Image
Painting April rolled around and the 'clocks' were moved forwards. This provided an additional daylight hour in the evening, I could now paint for longer in the day (I am not a fan of lamp light). I started the the month by painting up Elathain, Ill Fated, which allowed me to complete the Soulraid. Immediately, I could tick off ' Paint a Warhammer Underworlds warband '. I wanted to paint Elathain as I was intending to try using this warband in some games. How I paint - Idoneth Next, I wanted to continue working on Zondara's Gravebreakers. I picked up Ferlain and painted this werewolf in a range of dark grey colours. With Ferlain finished, I took a look at Zondara and felt that she was more detailed than I wanted to tackle at that moment. Next I returned to Daggok's Stab-Ladz. I painted up Hurrk, Da Howla before moving onto Jagz, Da Bleeda. I painted these Orruks to match Da' Kunnin Krew. Before I could move onto Daggok a parcel arrived in the post!   Winte...

FIRST EDITION Checkout my  Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page  for more articles. Wintermaw is the tenth Season of Warhammer Underworlds. our warbands have descended deeper into the Deathgorge: a chasm within Ghur frozen by the Everwinter.  Brethern of the Bolt Grand Alliance: Order (Cities of Sigmar) Number of fighters: 5 Access to magic: No wizard Playstyle: When painting my Brethern of the Bolt, I had an idea that they would be painted in the blues of the Azyr (to match the Celestrial wizard of the Empire from WFB).  Skinnerkin Grand Alliance: Death (Flesh Eaters Court) Number of fighters: 5 Access to magic: No wizard Playstyle: Aggro When painting this Flesh Eater Court warband, I wanted to make them match my Grymwatch (from Beastgrave). I always, like the idea of my ghouls having a troglodyte look to them (rather Lovecraftian). I used my How I Paint- Flesh Eaters Court guide.  If you have any thoughts please drop them below.  Check out my war...

FIRST EDITION Checkout my  Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page  for more articles. Deathgorge is the ninth Season of Warhammer Underworlds.  The season sees the game still in the Realm of Beasts but it has moved to the frozen regions of the Deathgorge. The Everwinter has descended on the Deathgorge spreading it's icy curse.  Thricefold Discord (link to 2nd Edition review) Grand Alliance: Chaos (Hedonites of Slaanesh) Number of fighters: 3 (Total of 12 wounds) Access to magic: Two wizards. One level 2 and one level 1. Play Style: Control The Thricefold Discord are a trio of Slaaneshi Daemons. The background of this warband sees the three Daemons bickering and infighting. This is represented by the fighters inspiring when their fellow Daemons fail at a dice roll. Upon inspiration, the Daemons all gain improve accuracy on their attacks and Vexmor, the leader, gains an improved defence. The aim with this warband is to force your opponent into making bad decision...

Warhammer Underworlds - Wrydhollow warbands

Image
FIRST EDITION Checkout my  Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page for more articles. In the realm of Wyrdhollow, our warbands venture into the depths of the Gnarlwood, where magic has resurged with a vengeance. This season brings forth a delightful array of wizards to accompany our battles. As for myself, I've reignited my passion for painting warbands and have made it a priority to focus on the latest releases rather than my existing backlog. Domitan's Stormcoven Grand Alliance: Order (Stormcast Eternals) Number of Fighters: 3 Access to magic: Three level 1 wizards ( Inspire to level 2) Playstyle: Flex First off, let's delve into Domitan's Stormcoven, a trio of Stormcast wizards. I've chosen to paint them in my signature Hallowed Knights scheme, creating a seamless match with the Truthseekers from Harrowdeep. While these miniatures are certainly impressive, they haven't captured my personal interest as much as others have. My Domitan's Stormcoven - Top Pick...

Warhammer Underworlds - Gnarlwood warbands

Image
FIRST EDITION Checkout my  Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page for more articles. Gnarlwood saw Warhammer Underworlds return from the Nethermaze, deep in the Realm of Shadows back to the Realm of Beasts. Instead of the mountainous Beastgrave, the setting was a carnivorous forest, tying the Underworlds with Warcry. The Sons of Velmourn Grand Alliance: Death (Soulblight Gravelord) Number of fighters: 5 Access to magic: No wizard Playstyle: Aggro (Rivals), Flex (Nemesis) One of the warbands introduced in Gnarlwood is the Sons of Velmourn, a formidable group of Grave Guard fighters. For three decades, I have been an ardent player of the Undead forces, and when I set out to paint this warband, I envisioned them adorned in the distinguished dark blue colors reminiscent of the notorious Night Lords from Warhammer 40,000. This inspiration sprouted from the iconic shield of Sir Jedran Falseborn, seemingly bearing the symbol of the Night Lords. I want to like this warband but they suffer ...

Warhammer Underworlds - Nethermaze warbands

Image
FIRST EDITION Checkout my  Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page  for more articles. The sixth season if Warhammer Underworlds saw our warbands descend further below the Shadowsea of Ulgu into the Nethermaze.  The Nethermaze rests below Harrowdeep, acting as a twisted inversion where reality bends to the whims of its shadowy masters. These mysterious entities were born from the Orb Duplicita – also known as the Liar’s Moon – a crucible of dark energies on the Outer Rim of Ulgu.  The Shadeborn Grand Alliance: Order (Daughters of Khaine) Number of fighters: 4 Access to magic: One level 1 wizard Playstyle: Aggro The Shadeborn are a group of four aelves. As such they are quite fragile but are reasonably accurate. They have lost some power since their initial release following the change to the Gloom (cover) hex rule. The warband now needs to pair with a deck that can provide them with additional cover hexes to help them score objectives and utilise their abilities. ...

Warhammer Underworlds - Harrowdeep warbands

Image
FIRST EDITION Checkout my  Warhammer Underworlds - Contents Page for more articles. For the start of Warhammer Underworlds' fifth season our intrepid warbands are descending beneath the waves of the Shadowseas of the Umbral Veil in the Realm of Ulgu. Harrowdeep is a cavernous labyrinthe beneath the seabed of the Shadowsea constructed by Shadow Daemons using Shadow magic. The warbands trapped within Harrowdeep have but one choice to escape the labyrinth is to delve deeper into the maze.  On a side note this has to be my favourite season, as I like all the warbands.   Xandire's Truthseekers Grand Alliance: Order (Stormcast Eternals) Number of fighters: 4 (Total of 14 wounds) Access to magic: One level 1 wizard Play Style: Aggro Playing against: Avoid killing any fighter outright to prevent them inspiring. Killing Stormrider will prevent Taros from inspiring. The Truthseekers struggle with accuracy when uninspired. Xandire's Truthseekers are a group of Stormcast Eter...
