Aeronautica Imperialis - Faction Review - Space Marines

Image
UPDATED June 2025 The Adeptus Astartes, the legendary Space Marines, were released during the final year of Aeronautica Imperialis ' publication. At the time, I believed their arrival would secure the game’s future for years to come. Sadly, I was wrong. Just a few months later, Aeronautica was shelved in favour of Legions Imperialis . However, many of the Adeptus Astartes aircraft, along with several Imperial Navy models, remain available. As a result, the Space Marines now stand as the most vital faction for keeping Aeronautica Imperialis alive in the skies. The Space Marines The Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, are tough, well-armed, and often outnumbered. They're an unsubtle force, more than willing to fly straight into enemy fire and emerge on the other side leaving only burning wreckage behind. While they lack speed and manoeuvrability, their durability more than makes up for it. They are, however, a forgiving faction to play, though being regularly outnumbered means...

How I paint Aeronautica Imperialis - Bases

Image
Painting Aeronautica Imperialis Bases One thing I’ve never understood about Games Workshop’s Aeronautica Imperialis range is why they don’t paint the bases. The sculpted radar screens and industrial-style riveted metal details give a fantastic thematic vibe—but left unpainted, they make the miniatures look unfinished. So, here’s my personal take on painting these bases to bring them up to par with the rest of your models. Paints Required Leadbelcher Spray Nuln Oil Abaddon Black Caliban Green Warpstone Glow Moot Green Warplock Bronze Agrax Earthshade Balthasar Gold Hashut Copper Leadbelcher Preparing the Bases Before painting, disassemble the bases to protect the altitude and speed dials. Use a Citadel greenstuff modeling tool to carefully prise off the backs of the bases and remove the dials. Spray both the top and bottom parts with Leadbelcher . Step-by-Step Painting Process 1. Rivets and Metal Wash Using a small detail brush, apply ...

Aeronautica Imperialis - Scenario - Ork Air Race

Image
Background Orks love to go fast, and what better way to prove who has the best plane than a race! This is an Ork race, so shooting at the other planes is definitely allowed. Not only that, but the Orks on the ground have wagered a lot of teef on their favourite planes, so they won’t let them lose easily. Number of Players 3 to 8 (4 plus players is better) Forces Each player may spend up to 25 points on a single Ork fighter aircraft. They can take any upgrades or extra weapons they want, provided the total does not exceed 25 points. Alternatively, in games with fewer players, each player can take two planes with a combined points total of 45 points. Only fighters are allowed in this game. Set Up Place a numbered marker in each of the numbered blue hexes. Starting with the player who won the roll-off (see Order of Play ), players take turns placing their aircraft within the red starting hexes. Players may choose the Speed and Altitude (following the Fighting at Low Alt...

How I choose a Warhammer Underworlds Warband for a Tournament - Deck selection

Image
Introduction In my last article, I discussed how I choose the warband I want to take to a tournament. Read the article  here . Spoiler alert : I chose Cyreni’s Razors as my warband for this season of Warhammer Underworlds . I now need to decide on a playstyle and a deck pairing for my fighters. In this article, I want to talk through: Choosing my warband’s playstyle Picking the Rivals decks to use for my Nemesis pairing Deciding how many cards to take Playstyle Cyreni’s Razors are listed in Warhammer Underworlds as a Flex warband. Having played them, I would agree, this is an accurate description of their playstyle. They’re designed to exert control over the board state , while also picking off a few of the opponent’s fighters . My idea is to build a deck that primarily focuses on gaining glory through a mix of attacks and control over feature tokens . That gives me the flexibility to respond to different opponent playstyles,  whether that’s aggressive, contr...
