Warhammer Underworlds - Invaders

Invade or Entice? Enemy Territory in Warhammer Underworlds Rivals Decks I was heading home from my club games the other day thinking about which Rivals decks I might want to pair with Blackpowder’s Buccaneers. I naturally gravitate toward a counter‑attack style of play: inviting my opponent into my territory, absorbing the initial pressure and then striking back when the moment is right. But Warhammer Underworlds is ultimately a game won on Objectives and Glory, not just positioning and clever traps. That made me stop and ask a key question: Which Rivals decks force you to cross the board, and which let you stay comfortably at home? To answer that, I analysed every current Rivals deck to see how many Objective cards, and how much Glory, are locked behind some form of interaction with enemy territory. This also has knock‑on effects for Nemesis pairings, because combining two decks with similar territorial demands can strongly shape how a warband must play. What Do We Mean by Enemy Terri...

Painting I have not had much time for hobby this month, with work being very busy and the build up to Christmas well under way. I did, however, manage to finish painting Kurnoth’s Heralds, one of the two warbands from the Spitewood box set for Warhammer Underworlds. My Heralds They took me quite a bit of time, as I painted them in the same scheme as Skaeth’s Wild Hunt from the Beastgrave season of the game. Unfortunately, I did not particularly enjoy painting them. Still, they are finished now, which is the important thing. This year I painted a total of 54 miniatures. This includes eight Warhammer Underworlds warbands: A squadron of Iron Warriors Xiphons for Aeronautica Imperialis (3 miniatures) The Pyregheists, a Warcry warband (8 miniatures) A pack of Gryph hounds (3 miniatures) A unit of Gloomspite Loonsmashas (5 miniatures) Grandfather’s Gardeners (5 miniatures) Zikkit’s Tunnelpack (5 miniatures) The Jaws of Itzl (4 miniatures) Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz (5 miniatures) The Knives of th...

Painting Well, it turned out to be a quiet month for painting. I have been trying to paint the Kurnothi Hunters from the Spitewood box set, but I am not really enjoying them, so they remain an ongoing project. I am even wondering whether to pick up another set and try a new colour scheme from scratch. I recently decided to focus on playing three warbands for a while: Blackpowder, the Truthseekers and Daggok’s Stab Ladz. I also wanted to try painting a warband using Contrast paints, something I had not done before. With that in mind, I bought a new set of Stab Ladz. I built them in one evening and then painted the entire warband in a single day, which is very fast for me. My New Stab Ladz The Contrast paints did make the overall process quicker, but I learned that they need multiple coats to achieve solid coverage. I also need to learn which layer paints work best as highlights. Gaming On the gaming front I have continued to play at my local club with various celebrities such as ...
