Wrack and Ruin - Deck Review

Image
NEW VERSION Overview Wrack and Ruin is a Mastery style Rivals deck that rewards smart positioning and clever use of ploys. It leans into 'ping', chipping away at enemy fighters through small but consistent damage. This is a control deck through and through. If you like wearing your opponent down while keeping your own plans intact, Wrack and Ruin might be your new favourite tool in the box. Objectives – Mastery Through Attrition The objectives in Wrack and Ruin reward careful control of positioning and chip damage through well timed ploys: Bloodied and Bruised is a straightforward surge that triggers when you injure a fighter while three others are already wounded. Thanks to the steady flow of ping damage in this deck, it comes up more often than you'd think. Alone in the Dark scores when no fighters are adjacent to each other. It rewards you for spreading out and punishes bunched formations. Make sure you have enough push tech to create space when needed. Stay Close ...

Knives of the Crone - Warband Review

Image
They are led by the seer Kaerna Vix [1], who reads the viscera of slain foes to glean her deity’s desires. A cadre of killers ensure Vix’s visions come to pass: Tazari [2] is Kaerna’s strong right hand, while Krieta [3] eagerly butchers those who draw her master’s gaze. Finally, the arbalist Azphel [4] stands ready to put a crossbow bolt through distant foes. Fighter Characteristics All fighters in the warband have Move 4, which is standard for Aelves. The team is made up of three fighters with 4 Health and one with 3 Health. The leader, Vix , has 4 Health, starts on 2 Dodge, and gives up 2 Bounty. Her single melee attack is Range 1, hitting on 2 Hammers for 2 Damage. It’s a functional stat line, but nothing standout. When inspired, she gains an extra dice on her attack, improving it to 3 Hammers. She’s the least critical fighter to inspire, though the accuracy boost can still be helpful when needed. Tazari also has 4 Health and starts on 1 Dodge, giving up 2 Bounty. She begins ...

Reckless Fury - Deck Review

Image
NEW VERSION Reckless Fury  is the second aggression-focused Rivals deck released for Embergard. It epitomizes the "Always Be Charging" (ABC) philosophy common to  Strike  warbands. It rewards players who can efficiently manage charging and Charge tokens to maximize their scoring opportunities. Objectives – Embracing the Charge This deck's objectives revolve around aggressive manoeuvres and attentive control of Charge tokens. Frenzied Rush:   Asks you to charge fighters into enemy territory. This is easily done, especially with high-bounty fighters. The attack doesn’t even need to succeed. Best Foot Forwards:  Rewards a charge into enemy territory followed by a successful attack. Essentially scoring glory for doing what your warband wants to do anyway. Bloody Momentum:  Scores in the end phase if you have multiple friendly fighters with Charge tokens in enemy territory. Strike warbands will likely meet this passively just by playing their game. Arena Mortis:...

Chaos Daemons, the best army from Games Workshop.

Image
Why Chaos Daemons Are the Best Hobby Army Now, before some of you read further—I’m not writing this article because this army is the most competitive or the strongest (although it could be). If you're looking for an army just to win games, then Chaos Daemons probably aren’t it. I'm writing this because, in my opinion, they are simply the best hobby faction that Games Workshop has to offer. Why is that, you ask? The Legacy of Chaos in Warhammer Let’s go back to 1988. Before I even got into the hobby, Games Workshop released Realms of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness,  a book that introduced Khorne and Slaanesh (and yes, it also included rules for Grey Knights in Rogue Trader , the first version of Warhammer 40,000 ). I started the hobby in 1990 and was around for the release of Realms of Chaos: The Lost and the Damned , which covered Nurgle and Tzeentch. These two books laid the foundation for the Chaos pantheon, both in the 41st Millennium and the Mortal Realms. I think this might e...
