I choose to paint up Rippa's Snarlfangs. This small warband could also be added to my small Gloomspite Gitz force. I could now tick off 'Paint a Warhammer Underworlds warband'. I used the How I paint wolves - Oathmark, as a basis for my Snarlfangs. I then decided I wanted to p...

How I paint Wolves - Oathmark

Image
Wolves have been a common feature of fantasy stories and fairy tales for many years. When I first read the Hobbit, I came across the idea of goblin wolf riders. Having bought a set of Goblin Wolf Riders for Oathmark, I decided I wanted dark grey wolves and that I also wanted to give the miniatures the impression of being furred. This is my method. Other Oathmark - How I paint guides: Goblin Infantry Elven Infantry D warven Infantry. Paints required: Chaos Black spray Abaddon Black Mechanicum Standard Grey Dawnstone Administratum Grey Grey Seer Nuln Oil Lahmian Medium Xereus Purple Screamer Pink Druchii Violet Cadian Fleshtone Bugmans Glow Zandri Dust Ushabti Bone Screaming Skull Matt White (AP) Averland Sunset I began by undercoating the wolves with Chaos Black spray . 1. The upper side of the wolf was painted with a 1:1 mix of  Abaddon Black  and  Mechanicum Standard Grey . To the underside of the wolf, I applied a coat or two of Mechanicum Standard Grey . With each wol...

Hobby Goals - January 2023

Image
2023 began with me purchasing the Warhammer Underworlds warbands that I had missing from my collection. As such, I started the year by buying 25 miniatures. I am not intending to buy many miniatures this year, as I am really trying to get through my pile of shame. I started by painting up a few more Aeronautica aircraft. First up was a Xiphon Interceptor for my Blood Angels. How I paint - Blood Angels This was then followed by a Storm Eagle for my Night Lords. How I paint - Night Lords I then began looking through my pile of shame potential and found a bunch of Necron sprues. I had originally bought them to add to my existing Necron Army. I began by building and painting my Royal Warden. I decided I wanted to restart my Necron army, with a new paint scheme, which is similar to my old army. With a character finished, I wanted to add some troops to my new Necron army. I built 10 Necron Warriors and started painting 5 of these miniatures. The Necron Warrior sprue also makes three bases of...

Hobby Goals - December 2022

( Red  items were completed this month,  purple  items completed in previous months)    ← November                                                                                                      January 2023→   December ended up being a quiet hobby month. I did a little bit of painting and built a sizeable number of miniature ready for next year. I struggled to paint this month through a combination of hobby fatigue, poor light (so, I bought a daylight lamp) and Christmas. I did not buy any more miniatures this month. So, for the fourth month this year I can tick off 'Do not buy any new miniatures in a month' . This goal has been an important one this...

( Red  items were completed this month,  purple  items completed in previous months)     ← October                                                                                           December →   November has been a quiet month for my hobby. I have been busy with work and here in the UK the weather has been awful. As such, I have had a lack of natural light, which has in part slowed my painting. I began the month by painting the Sons of Velmorn from the new Warhammer Underworlds: Gnarlwood set. This group of Grave Guard was a pleasant change from the aircraft I have been painting recently. It was also nice to complete a whole warband in a single month, something I have not achieved for a while. So, I can once again tick off...

How I Paint - Legions Imperialis - Imperial Fist Yellow

Image
Paints required: Wraithbone spray Averland Sunset Yriel Yellow Cassandora Yellow Screaming Skull Abaddon Black Leadbelcher Corax White Balthasar Gold Eshin Grey Gryph-Charger Grey Nuln Oil Mephiston Red Evil Suns Scarlet Wild Rider Red I began by giving the aircraft an undercoat with  Wraithbone spray .  Then a basecoat of  Averland Sunset , thinned with a little water, was applied over the miniature. I used a large drybrush and worked quickly, avoiding returning to panels already covered. It took around 2 coats to get a nice solid finish. When this initial basecoat was fully dry the aircraft was given a second basecoat with  Yriel Yellow  (a layer paint). Again, this was thinned with a little water and applied with the medium drybrush. Three coats were required to get a nice smooth finish. When the basecoats were full dry,  Cassandora Yellow  was painted into the recesses and around the panels of the aircraft using a small detail brush (I use s...
