Hobby Goals - April 26

Jon Grant Miniatures April 2026 Hobby Update by Jon Grant 1st May 2026 Painting I began the month with the aim of painting Thanatek’s Tithe. As of the beginning of March, they were the only Warhammer Underworlds warband that I had yet to paint. I chose the same colour scheme I used for Kainan’s Reapers, bone and purples to represent Shyish, the Realm of Death. I really enjoyed painting this warband and I continue to love the Ossiarch Bonereaper aesthetic, although I doubt I will ever paint a larger force for them. While working on the Mortis Reapers, I also wrote a painting guide, which you can find linked here . My Tithe Afterwards, I decided to paint four Moonclan Grot archers for my Gloomspite Gitz. For these miniatures, I followed my existing Moonclan Grot painting guide. Returning to the loft, I rediscovered my Wrath and Rapture box set from 2019. I had finished painting the Khorne Daemons years ago, but most of the Slaaneshi daemons were still on the sprues. I decided...

How I Paint Steeds of Slaanesh By Jon Grant, 23rd April 2026 This post contains Amazon affiliate links. If you purchase through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. For many years, I have enjoyed collecting and painting the various Daemons of Chaos. After rooting around in my pile of shame, I came across the Slaaneshi daemon sprues from the 2019 box set Wrath and Rapture and decided it was time they were built and painted. I am a fan of the classic paint scheme for all GW miniatures. In 1990, when I first started painting miniatures, Slaanesh was always associated with pastel colours. Back in 1988, Realms of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness was released. This book, which I own a copy of, detailed the forces of Khorne and Slaanesh for the first time. I used the description of the Steeds of Slaanesh as the basis for this guide: “Mounts of Slaanesh are bipedal, combining the appearance of a horse and an ostrich. They have two long, feminine legs, and a crest of vi...

Warhammer Underworlds - Analysis Series - Objective Card Draw

Objective Card Draw Analysis in Warhammer Underworlds By Jon Grant, 4th April 2026 Probability, Mulligans and Opening Hands In Warhammer Underworlds, games are won by scoring glory. Some of this comes from Bounty, gained by taking enemy fighters out of action, however the majority typically comes from Objective cards. Objective cards come in two forms: Surges and End Phase cards. Surge cards can be scored immediately at various points throughout the game, depending on the condition and scoring window described on the card. Importantly, these can be scored outside of the End Phase, allowing for more immediate scoring, which helps to get the glory train rolling during a round. Early glory, then allows you to start upgrading fighters, which helps with scoring more glory, leading to a snowballing effect. Scoring surges early helps you make a Strong Start. End Phase cards, as the name suggests, can only be scored during the End Phase. Therefore, having access to surges early is important, t...

How I Paint Ossiarch Bonereapers - Mortis Reaper By Jon Grant, 2nd April 2026 This post contains Amazon affiliate links. If you purchase through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Ever since I started playing Warhammer, I have collected and painted some form of the Undead. In recent years, my attention has been focused elsewhere, but I still enjoy painting these miniatures. A few years ago, I painted Kainan's Reapers, an Ossiarch Bonereapers warband for Warhammer Underworlds. Now I am turning my attention to Thanatek's Tithe, and specifically one of the two Mortis Reapers from the warband. The bone recipe in this method is a version of one I first used back in 1991, when I painted my first Undead army. Hobby Goals - March 26

Jon Grant Miniatures March 26 Hobby Update Painting The first painting priority this month was to finish Blood of the Bull . This was easily achieved as most of the work had already been done in February. I only needed to complete Hogrot, Grisk and the bases on the Helsmiths to finish the warband. My Blood of the Bull After that, hobby time was limited for most of March due to other commitments. Toward the end of the month, I was able to make a start on Thanatek’s Tithe , the latest warband for Warhammer Underworlds. I have been meaning to write a “How I Paint” article for the Ossiarch Bonereapers for a while, and this warband will help move that forward. Painting Stats Miniatures painted this month: 5 Warhammer Underworlds warbands painted this year: 3 Miniatures painted this year: 18 Gaming Following on from the tournament at the end of February, I wanted to find a new deck pairing for Blackpowder’s Buccaneers. The aim was to try a range of different pairings to see what did an...
